I am a college student!

I survived my first week of school!
It's been one CRAZY
week though! The best part is
that I'm not the oldest person in any
of my classes! I don't think
anyway. I may be the oldest
in my drawing class. There is this one
guy that looks around my age...but I'm
not sure.

So on Monday's and Wednesdays
I have Digital Photography, Drawing I
and Photoshop Fundamentals.
On Tuesday's I have HPE. It's a
health and fitness class, which I'm
not thrilled about, but it's a
required class and Anson
suggested that I do it.
Thanks babe, appreciate it.
I'm not thrilled about my drawing
class either. I once liked drawing like
about 14 years ago but not anymore.
But that class is a requirement also.
We had to draw a self portrait
the other day. My drawing abilities are
not what they used to be!
Here is a picture that I drew
back in 1994:

Now, this is my self portrait I had to draw earlier this week:

HUGE difference!
In my own defense, I have
to say that I was REALLY into drawing
and really into Kurt Cobain
and I drew him from a photograph.
I don't do so well drawing a live person in front of me.
This picture doesn't even look like me,
but we're going to be drawing
a lot of self portraits in the class using different
techniques so hopefully
I will get better....

Pictures!

I took pictures of the boys the other day
and found that I had a thumb print
on my lens afterwards.
I was bummed because some
of the pictures turned out really good.
After I tweaked the color,
the blurry spot became less
noticeable.

Before I forget....

Tonight at the dinner table, my sweet little
Ashton told me about what
happened at recess today.
I tried not to laugh, but it was really hard!
The way he was telling me the story,
he just had this casual sort
of whatever- matter of fact
way of saying it.
This was our conversation (sort of):

Ashton: Mom, at recess, this boy thought he was the toughest kid in school, but he wasn't. I took him down.

Mom: Why? What happened?

Ashton: He was trying to fight me, but I was dodging his punches.

Mom: Why was he trying to fight you?

Ashton: I don't know.

Mom: Did you try to take something away from him?

Ashton: No.

Mom: Did you get in trouble by the teachers?

Ashton: They didn't see. But another kid was fighting with him. He took him down too and a teacher saw and he got in trouble.

Mom: Was he in 1st grade? In your class?

Ashton: No, he was in 2nd.

Mom: Next time find a teacher and tell her. I don't want you to fight because you will get in big trouble.

My other boys were just laughing the entire
time so it was hard for me to keep a straight face.
I am going to have a tough time with this kid.
He is so unlike my other two.
At last night's dinner at the
church, all the kids were playing
with a ball and Ashton was attacking the
bishop's son trying
to get the ball!
I was so embarrassed!

Happy Birthday Ashton! (yesterday)

My sweet baby, Ashton, was due on August 31st, 2002. I went into early labor and had to check into the hospital where they gave me drugs to stop the contractions. A couple of months later, at what I thought would be my last Dr's appointment, my Dr. told me that she was going on a vacation for a week and that I would most likely have the baby while she was gone. It turns out that I didn't. My Dr. called me up after her vacation and scheduled me to be induced. So,finally on September 10th (10 days OVERDUE!) I went into the hospital to have a baby. It turns out that I was 8 centimeters dilated. Ashton was 9 lbs. 12 oz. He was a MOOSE! :)

He is such a sweet boy. He still likes to snuggle and some mornings when he wakes up before me, he comes into my room, gives me a kiss on my cheek and leaves. He still likes hugs and at times he is the first to say, "I love you".

Yesterday was Ashton's birthday, but things were so busy that we didn't get a chance to go to Chuck E. Cheese's. We will have to go sometime next week. I did make him a hideous looking cake that probably gave him nightmares. Ammon and Ashton LOVE Star Wars, so I made a Chewbacca cake. It's ridiculous I know, but Ashton loved it.

Happy Birthday my sweet boy! We love you and are so glad you completed our family!

In other news....Last night Anson Jr. had a combined YM/YW activity. Families were invited to have a spaghetti and meatball dinner and play games with their youth.

I happened to be wearing my, "Kiss Me, I'm a Vegetarian" t-shirt and some guy asked, "Really, is that true"? I said ya and then he asked if I was a member. I got a little defensive. I thought he was just being ignorant and one of those people who was judging me and then would tell me, "God says in the scriptures that animals are for meat." Blah, blah, blah. I've heard it a million times before. My husband thought he asked if I was a member because there aren't a lot of vegetarian mormons and he has never seen me before so he didn't know if I was a member or not. It turns out that this guy is a nurse at a Seventh Day Adventist hospital and Seventh Day Adventist's are vegetarians. I'm just so used to defending this part of me. I have been a vegetarian for 17 years and have no desire to eat animals ever again. (just in case you're wondering)

College, the mall and old friends...

This morning Anson took me to Clark College to get books for my classes. He was also able to show me where my classes would be. It's so weird starting college at 33, but I'm not the only one that does that. Anson said it's a lot like high school, so I guess I will be ignoring everybody. :)

Later this afternoon, Anson and I went to the mall and ate at their food court. He got Mongolian Grill and I got Pizza! YUM! That's all we did at the mall....eat. I can't shop with him anymore, I have to do it alone. He wants to accompany me places if you know what I mean. I'm all for keeping the fire burning, but I have my limits.

Through this wonderful world of blogging, I have been able to look up old friends and get in touch with some of them. Today, I called Terra! I haven't talked to her in over 13 or 14 years! It was SO NICE to talk with her! Terra, look what I found!

Kick 'N Go!

Today Uncle Adam picked up Anson Jr. and Ammon to go get Kick 'N Go scooters. How cool is that? So while they were out, Anson Sr. and I decided to take Ashton and get him an early birthday present. We ended up at Target and guess what Ashton picked. A Kick 'N Go. My boys have been talking about these things FOREVER!

The boys rode around our cul-de-sac for awhile but we decided to take them down to the park by our house and really test those things out.

The first day of school!

Wow! It has been a long summer! I think the kids are as excited as I am for school to start. Anson Jr. is in 7th grade, Ammon is in 4th and Ashton is in 1st. Ashton started Kindergarten when he was only 4 because his birthday (September 10th), falls after the deadline. So, now my little boy is 5 years old, in the 1st grade and will turn 6 in a week. He just seems so young to be in school all day long, but I am SO thankful he is. That kid is a little tazmanian devil, he needs the structure.

Anson and I drove the kids to school this morning and Ashton hopped out and took off! I brought my camera but was only able to take a picture of him walking away.

I met Ammon and Ashton at the bus sometime after 3:10pm. This year Anson Jr. will be taking the bus home too. He just got home at 5:07pm! His school gets out at 4:05pm and he should have been home around 4:20pm. Hopefully tomorrow will be better, otherwise I'll just pick him up from school from now on. He shouldn't have to be on the bus for an hour.

Other than all that, the kids had a really good day.

I got a lot done today while the kids were gone. I cleaned the kitchen, mopped the floors, wiped down the walls, cleaned the piano room, did some laundry, EXERCISED, went grocery shopping, got new tires on one car and a new starter in the other and spent quality time with my husband.

Anson Sr. leaves for school tomorrow morning and will be in Seattle until Friday afternoon. He's excited to get back into the swing of things after a little break.

I don't start school until September 22nd and just found out that I just got into the last class I was on the waitlist for. I'll be taking 13 credits and got ALL the classes that I wanted.
